design philosophy

The soul of a painter with the mind of an engineer is where my design sense stems from. Art is a response to the world around me; a celebration of what I see and how I choose to express it. Design is applying that response in a focused, calculated fashion. Design is taking the set of variables that you have to work with and achieving the best possible outcome. It’s about turning things around in your head and on paper thousands of time to create something new. So that it is seamless and balanced. To entertain all ideas but embrace few. Nature, being outside is the touchstone of my design sensibilities. Everything for good design is glaringly apparent - the play of colors, light, scents, sounds, movement, and the structure of plants and animals. Design has to speak to the universal environment; everything has an effect on everything else. Considering both the micro and macro environment is paramount. There has to be civility in design; meaning it considers all life. Civility in design means it encompasses both sustainability and universal design.
